Someone has to say the quiet part out loud from time to time. Finland’s immigration policy, and integration efforts have failed.
The Finnish Law is, and should continue to be above religion.
The issues in the integration system are not discussed enough due to the critically polarized and infected tone of conversation regarding the subject, especially following the major migrant wave of 2015 and it’s subsequent events. Children and teens anxious about their future prospects share and idolize violence videos in TikTok, cause vandalize public spaces in frustration, and in extreme cases rob and stab people.
Professionals who have migrated to and studied in Finland are shocked by their nigh non-existent career prospects, and are forced to choose between low productivity work outside their field to survive day to day, or leave our beloved Nordic paradise for healthier job markets in the EU or North America. Some immigrant mothers isolate, or are being isolated from society due to not speaking Finnish. These are a sum of a series of failures, and is one of the greatest challenges of the decade.
A massive portion of the issues is caused by insufficient funds allocated to the integration and education of immigrants. It is completely unacceptable response that Orpo’s goverment has chosen to cut further from the integration efforts while simultaneously raving on social media about the downsides and side effects of immigration, which they are partially causing themselves. The side effects, which will deteriorate as a direct result of their budget cuts in the coming years.
Our immigration system has its limits, which can be somewhat stretched with additional funds, but even a limitless war chest to fix the current pipeline cannot magically conjure trained personnel to social services, especially as the field is currently under paid and underappreciated. I can’t see anyone wishing the no-go areas and shadow societies that are forming in Sweden to land in Finland. Unless we can integrate the amount of people coming in to build our society, whether industry-leading professionals, political refugees, or students , we should not accept more than we have the capacity for. In these unstable times, a zero-tolerance policy is also required for weaponized immigration and hybrid measures coming in from Russia or any other destabilizing party.
Make no mistake, there is room for immigrants in Finland and the Finnish society. Muslims, jews, hindus and pastafarists are welcome amidst lutherans. Different cultures and points of views are accepted, but with great liberty and freedom, comes responsibility and duty. The Finnish law is, and should continue to be above religion. Finland does not need one fundementalist individual of any faith, who is under the impression that their belief supercedes the law, and does not respect the societal order. These individuals should carefully consider if they are willing and able to integrate, and if not, seek their fortune somewhere else. Finland does not need anyone supporting Sharia for a juridical system here, nor anyone supporting the PRC intelligence apparatus. The rights and freedoms of women and children are absolute facts, to be protected and uphold. Everyone in Finland has the right to worship any deity or faith, within the rule of the law.
Muslims, jews, hindus and pastafarists are welcome
I will always champion and vote for a humane immigration and integration policy. The education of Finnish language must be funded and supported by the state, municipalities and companies to maximize welfare and peaceful coexistence. The rights of women and children, their sovereignity of body and the right to self-determination must by protected and stregthened. Our school system’s religious curriculum must be updated to a unified education of world religions and philosophy of life, which gathers all students under one single curriculum to study different beliefs around the globe.
The participation in society must be made unreliant of any religion. Any and all problems in the system should be tackled with determination and rational mindset, and the ongoing societal discussion on the benefits and side effects of immigration has to be conducted in a civil manner.
